Price at Crenshaw Christian Center Home of the Faith Dome in Los Angeles, CA. Dr. Shorter has been recognized for various scholarly honors and degrees, including his Doctorate of Ministry degree, which was conferred upon him in December 1999. Donald Shorter met the former Kathy Lynette Hill while she attended Clover Park High School in Lakewood, Washington. They were married in July of 1974, (married now nearly 35 years), and have three grown children; Monet Thompson, (husband Andrew), Dawnet Davis, (husband Terrele) Sr., and Donald Shorter Jr. Their children and their spouses all work in the ministry. Dr. Shorter is known as a blessed family man, with a great love for his wife and family. Don and Kathy Shorter are also the thankful grandparents of three lovely grandchildren, Aurianna, Anayas, and Terrele Jr. Donald Shorter Sr. founded Pacific Christian Center, on December 18, 1987 with his wife, Kathy Lynette Shorter and their two young daughters in the living room of their home, in Puyallup Washington... their family of four being the only church members at the first service. Through the Holy Spirit’s guidance, the church membership began to grow, and has continued to grow and to expand immensely year after year, now with various locations. Construction of their new state of the art multi-million dollar main worship and media production center, was recently completed in Tacoma, Washington in 2003. Dr. Shorter has been recognized for various media accomplishments, for his media production projects, including a Television Emmy and Radio and Television Production Awards. He has served on numerous boards, and has received several appointments over several years. Dr. Shorter and his wife Kathy, are also the Founders of the MTS Bible Training Ministry School which is headquartered at Pacific Christian Center. They have traveled and ministered from coast to coast in the United States of America, Canada, and the Philippines. They support several mission projects in Africa, Germany, Mexico and Poland where they provide medical supplies, foods, mission assistance, as well as train and supply missionaries through MTS to administer mission projects, while assisting in various church planting projects abroad through his calling of an Apostle. Dr. Shorter's media background and expertise is also being put to good use to help ministries desiring to tap into the myriad of local, regional and national media ministry broadcasting opportunities available to ministries and churches across the country and around the world. Through the assistance of Pastor Shorter's highly effective consultation, media production & training services provided through WordFirst Consultation - Media Production & Training Services, he is enabling pastors and ministry leaders to effectively reach previously untapped audiences with the gospel. This type of media assistance is utilized by pastors and ministries throughout America to better reach their media ministry potential, while applying wise strategies to stretch their ministry media budgets. Dr. Shorter’s television and radio broadcasting knowledge and experience, (for over 20 years, prior to entering full time ministry, he was on secular radio and television, owned an Advertising Agency, a Radio Station and a Media Production and Advertising Placement Company), which serves him well in reaching audiences with a no none-sense captivating, yet entertaining approach for all ages, on various biblically based subjects that matter to people everywhere. It was also during this time of working in the media, that Dr. Shorter's childhood hope and dream of learning to fly Jets and Helicopters; (a hope and dream planted in him at the age of 8 years old, while playing summertime Little League hardball, in a ball park across from Gray Army Air Field, at Ft. Lewis, Washington; as he would daydream of flying the military jets he saw taking off and landing close by, and watch the military helicopters practicing autorotation, (emergency landings), in nearby grassy fields; while he tried to concentrate on the baseball field. But, the nearby air field proved to become his field of dreams). The passion for aviation was rekindled again as years later he was chosen to serve as one of the media representatives in 1976, for a publicity flight with the United States - Navy - Blue Angels; to co-pilot and accompany the Flight Team Commander in Blue Angels Jet # 7 as the fighter jets prepared to take off from Whidbey Island, WA Naval Air Station. The pre-flight was completed, and jet was ready to head to their designated practice area, near Mt. Baker, Washington, with Shorter flying co-pilot in the Fight Team Commander's plane. The acrobatic flight team was practicing for an Air Show to be performed in Seattle, WA, for the annual SeaFair Summer Festival. During this flight, Don Shorter was given control of the jet while seated in the co-pilot's seat, of the dual seat canopy styled fighter jet. Once the plane had safely reached above 10,000 feet altitude, which was customary for the media flights, the Commander handed control of the jet to him and allowed Shorter to perform selected basic maneuvers, while being coached by the Team Commander, seated in the front pilot seat. The maneuvers included a 360 degree barrel roll of the jet while he was at the controls! This would prove to be the final re-ignition needed for Dr. Shorter's (childhood and seemingly childish) hopes and dreams of becoming a Commercial Jet and Helicopter Pilot. He determined from that day forward, that one day, he would pilot Jets and Helicopters, with God's help... (though his parents could not afford Flight School for him, after completion of high school due to the high costs of the courses). Presently, Dr. Shorter uses his passion for aviation, and his accomplishments and experience as a trained, FAA Certified, Commercial Corporate Jet, and Helicopter Pilot regularly as an inspiration to bring hope to diverse groups of young people, and the young at heart, of any age, (as he received his first pilot's license at the age of 48, forty years after he began to dream of flying aircraft as a child). He travels to speak at seminars and schools frequently, and volunteers to make regular presentations at the "Future Aviators" Training Sessions sponsored by the Kathi's Kids After School Outreach Program. His presentations, encourage especially youth, to follow their God given hopes and dreams. He speaks on how vitally important it is, to never give up on ones life long desires. The audiences are also taught, how to effectively set and reach lifestyle goals. The presentations are designed to challenge, and inspire all in attendance, to Win Against All Odds. Dr. Shorter emphasizes to the youth, the importance of staying in school (not dropping out), studying hard while in school (not being distracted), and the need for youth to learn and fully understand, math and science, and to strive to become an accomplished reader early in life, vital steps in accomplishing their lifelong, hopes and dreams. His speeches also often touch on the huge pilot shortages in the aviation industry today, (especially the shortage of minorities pilots). Dr. Shorter is a Corporate, Commercial Jet and Helicopter Pilot and holds FAA licenses and ratings to operate several types of aircraft. He often uses his commercial pilot experience to benefit their ministry, missions and business related traveling itinerary, as well as to encourage youth on how to obtain their hopes and lifelong dreams. Today, Dr. Donald Shorter and his wife, Kathy, minister to various
audiences by way of their various locations in the
Tacoma/Seattle, Washington area, as well as travel nationally
and internationally, to speak to audiences extensively. Kathy Shorter has founded
several outreaches and is the Founder
and Director of Kathi’s Kids, a community outreach program designed to assist
at risk children with needed life and learning skills. Don
and Kathy Shorter are regular hosts on their own weekly
television program entitled “It’s The Life”, in
the Seattle/Tacoma
market, seen on
KSTW TV Channel 11, and on The Comcast Network, they are also
regularly seen on The Trinity Broadcasting Network, The Word
